Just a reminder…I will be holding our regular Monday “Live” event TODAY (April 6th) at noon EDT……Needless to say, there will be plenty to talk about. We have the President’s press conference this afternoon…plus his deadline tomorrow.

We have more ships going through the Strait of Hormuz, but still 90% fewer than before the war…..There ARE, however, some items on the bullish side of the bull/bear ledger.

More than anything else, liquidity injections might be able to hold up the stock market for a while, BUT the risk/reward equation shows that the downside risk for stocks is still higher than the upside potential……..This is particularly true given that the concerns surrounding the profitability of the AI industry…and the stresses in the private credit market…still exist

  • The rally in the stock market was a strong one yesterday…and it helped the major averages bounce off the key support levels we highlighted in our weekend piece. So, that has given investors some badly needed relief.

    • The issues facing the private credit market are not receding…so brushing these problems aside is not a good idea. Besides, certain issues facing the public credit markets are not benign either. Thus, the risk/reward equation in the marketplace right now is still decidedly weight towards risk.

    • It all comes down to the re-opening the Strait of Hormuz. So, if we hear that “good progress is being made” in the negotiations at the end of this week, it won’t be enough…if the Strait remains very restricted.

  • President Trump has moved to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East…but Iran doesn’t seem to be taking the bait. We certainly live in strange times, so who the heck knows anymore.
